Pilates as an alternative training method

Pilates is a systematic training method for the body and mind. It is very effective and can be performed at any age and fitness level. Pilates focuses especially on the body's centre ("powerhouse") and therefore on strengthening the muscles of the back, abdomen and pelvic floor. Starting from the "Power House", the exercises are systematically built up and performed. It is important that the movements are performed fluently in order to protect the joints and other structures. Pilates attempts to stimulate the smaller muscle groups, which are often neglected in everyday training. This actively prevents incorrect body posture, incorrect loads, resulting injuries and chronic pain, thus achieving a comfortable and harmonious body feeling. In addition to the physical exercises, breathing is extremely important in Pilates and is therefore always trained as well.

Pilates is often underestimated. However, it is a holistic training, in which strengthening, stretching and resistance exercises are performed. This training strengthens the abdominal muscles, the pelvic floor and all muscles around the spine. Individual muscles and muscle groups are targeted and activated, especially the often-neglected deep muscles. The load can reach up to very high intensities. However, the quality of movements always takes priority over quantity. The main focus is on the mobility of the spine. These movements mobilize the tendons and muscles of all joint tissues. Pilates has many advantages, many of which have been scientifically proven. Among the positive effects are the improvement of posture and coordination, prevention of or counteracting incorrect body posture, and an increase in joint stability, to name but a few. Pilates represents among other things an optimal complementary training for other sports but can also be considered as an individual sport. It has a low risk of injury and at the same time has an injury-preventing effect.

The psychological effects of Pilates are often underestimated. However, these are of enormous importance. Improved sleep, increased self-esteem, relaxation, self-perception and getting to know oneself are just a few aspects that can be trained through this sport.

At teamsports.com, series on Pilates are increasingly being created. Since the starting level of the groups often varies greatly, all exercises in these training charts are provided with variation possibilities to make them easier or more difficult, so that they are not too hard or too easy. For each exercise, instructions are given which are particularly important for the execution and must be followed. This can be done verbally or by so-called "hands on". Breathing is also actively used in Pilates and should be taken into account when performing the exercise.
